Good news! OEC is pleased to announce we will continue to cover the background check costs of $87.00 through June 30, 2026 for child care programs and youth camps. 

Reminders about the background check process

Use the Background Check Information System (BCIS)

You must get your background check requests from your
employer and submit all background check components through BCIS

• Attempting to skip BCIS and obtain an Applicant Tracking Number (ATN)
  through another means will cause delays in processing your background
  check.
• Not creating a BCIS profile will lead to incomplete background check
  information.
• All background check acknowledgments and consents must be completed
  via BCIS:
  • These acknowledgments are only available through BCIS.
  • Failure to complete the acknowledgments may prevent you from
    obtaining fingerprints and will prevent your fingerprint results from being
    added to your BCIS profile.

Do not create multiple Application Tracking Numbers (ATN)

• Duplicate ATNs are costly and delay completion of your background check.
• Only one ATN is required for a fingerprint appointment.
• If your ATN begins with the current year (e.g., 25T0123456), you do not need to
  create a new one.
• For billing reasons, please use your ATN within 30-45 days.
• Use your “legal” name and correct date of birth; ensure your information is
  correct in both BCIS and on your ATN.
• Double check for typos and/or misspellings. If the information is incorrect or
  there is a mismatch in your information, new fingerprints will be required.
