Youth Camp Safety Advisory Council

OEC’s Youth Camp Safety Advisory Council helps make youth camps in Connecticut safer. The Council gives guidance and advice to OEC’s Commissioner on safety issues at youth camps.

Responsibilities

The Council works collaboratively with OEC to advise them on policies and legislation that make youth camps safe for children in Connecticut. OEC provides administrative assistance to help the Council do its work. 

The Council meets at least once every quarter. It may meet more than that if the chairperson or a majority of the members think it’s necessary.

The Council also meets with the OEC commissioner at least once a year. 

Membership

By law, members include:

  • Representatives from day camps, resident camps, sports camps, university camps, and independent school camps
  • Members from youth organizations, park and recreation groups, and the Connecticut Camping Association
  • A member added by the Commissioner based on specific expertise

All Council members:

  • Serve 3-year terms
