Governor Lamont and OEC Lead a Conversation on Early Childhood Development

On October 29, OEC and Governor Ned Lamont brought together state leaders and early childhood experts at the State Capitol’s Legislative Building for the event “Shaping Connecticut’s Tomorrow: A Conversation with Early Childhood Leaders.”
This event focused on the critical nature of the early years, with discussions built upon the Blue Ribbon Panel’s goals to drive positive policy and system changes for children and families.
The agenda included:
- Welcome by OEC Commissioner Beth Bye
- Keynote speech from Ellen Galinsky, President of Families and Work Institute (FWI)
- Remarks from Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz
Governor Lamont moderated the Panel discussion, which featured Galinsky as well as:
- Dr. Barbara Cooper, Senior Vice President of Professional Learning at Start Early
- Michelle Kang, CEO of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
The event was an important step toward creating better policies to support Connecticut’s youngest residents and their families.
