Governor Lamont Thanks Connecticut’s Child Care Workers

Last updated December 21, 2020

Governor Ned Lamont recognizes the integral role of child care workers during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Click here to watch Governor Ned Lamont’s message of thanks.

While the state responded quickly to put measures in place to limit spread, child care centers committed to remain open, continuing to care for babies and our youngest children. Your work allows other essential workers—doctors, nurses, emergency crews—to care for the community at large, while you care for their babies and children. Our child care community has courageously shown up each and every day, providing endless love, stability, structure, and strength for young children, even in the face of so many unknowns.

The care and education of our youngest community members has always been important; 90% of brain development occurs during the first five years of life, before kindergarten. This year, during a trying time for all families, you have shared much-needed support and care to Connecticut’s youngest community members.

With heartfelt thanks,

OEC Commissioner Beth Bye
