Required Health and Safety Training for Child Care Staff
Last updated May 5, 2025
OEC released a new memo on February 14, 2025 about new health and safety training requirements for all program staff. They’re based on recent changes to the child care center and group child care home regulations.
Starting April 1, 2025, all staff who care for children in licensed child care centers and group homes must complete a one-time health and safety training—even if your program doesn’t use Care 4 Kids.
- Staff must complete the training within 3 months of hire (or by April 1 for current staff)
- Training is free and online through your OEC Registry account
- You have 2 training options, depending on your certifications
- Program admins can check staff completion in the Registry
This requirement helps ensure a safe, healthy environment for kids—and counts toward your annual training hours.
