Watch the Office of Early Childhood Webinar on Background Checks

Last updated March 17, 2022

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, OEC hosted a webinar for Child Care Centers, Group Child Care Homes, and Center-based C4K Child Care Programs to review common challenges and questions for users of the Background Check Information System (BCIS). Some updates and reminders related to OEC background checks were also covered during the webinar. Topics included:

  1. The OEC will continue to cover fingerprint processing fees ($88.25 per person) for an additional year through July 1, 2023.
  2. OEC licensing specialists will begin using BCIS rosters as a tool during inspections to confirm compliance with background checks as of July 1, 2022. Child care programs should be prepared to review their BCIS roster during inspections and should take steps to ensure that all staff members who care for children or have unsupervised access to children are in a “current” or “work supervised” background check status.
  3. Paper fingerprint cards will no longer be accepted for OEC background checks as of July 1, 2022. As of that date, all fingerprints must be submitted electronically directly to the CT State Police. This can be done through the United Way, at some local police departments, or CT State Police Troops.
