Update on regulation changes for child care centers and group child care homes
On September 24, the CT Legislative Regulation Review Committee approved the proposed child care center and group child care home regulations with technical corrections. This is one of the last steps in the process of updating the regulations.
However, the new regulations haven’t taken effect yet. For now, continue to follow the current regulations.
What do I need to do?
Right now, don’t make any changes to your program, like altering the ratio or group size. Continue to follow the current regulations.
What happens next?
The agency submitted the regulations with technical corrections as required by the Legislative Regulation Review Committee to the Secretary of the State on October 7. We are awaiting notification that the regulations have been approved, which should be within the next several days.
You can expect that OEC will:
- Notify you about the of new or changed regulations by way of a plain language summary within 60 days after the regulation’s effective date
- Tell you the effective date of the regulations once determined by the Secretary of the State
- Post a link to the new regulations on our website
Why are the regulations changing?
For the first time in 10 years, OEC is proposing revised regulations for child care centers and group child care homes. We believe that the proposed regulations will:
- Protect the wellbeing of children in licensed care
- Strengthen the trust that parents place in you as a provider
