Pyramid Model for Programs

What is the Pyramid Model?

The Pyramid Model is a framework that helps programs implement evidence-based practices that:

  • Build positive relationships
  • Develop supportive and nurturing environments
  • Provide individualized supports to address persistent challenging behavior when needed

The Pyramid Model stresses the importance of teams, coaching, and data-based decision making. The model was created by a team of researchers, who continue to examine data and update materials. For more information, visit the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovation website.

How can my program get started?

  • Access training:  Training on the evidence-based practices is the starting point for teachers, administrators, and others looking to implement the Pyramid Model. This self-paced training usually takes about 18 hours to fully complete.  It includes helpful information about how Pyramid practices connect to Connecticut tools such as the CT Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS) and the CT Core Knowledge and Competency Framework.
  • Consider your program’s readiness to fully implement the model:  Program-wide Pyramid Implementation can have a big impact on your program.  But it takes a strong, lasting commitment to start and sustain these practices, so make sure you’re ready!
  • See how the Pyramid Model fits with what you are already doing:  Watch videos about how the Pyramid Model is related to resources you already use including the CT Core Knowledge and Competency Framework, the CT Early Learning and Development Standards, or the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.

For more information about how CT is implementing the Pyramid Model, visit the Connecticut Pyramid Partnership webpage.
