Young children are still learning how to express their emotions and interact with others. Supporting social and emotional competence helps young children learn new skills and helps to prevent challenging behaviors.
OEC offers many resources and opportunities to help your program support the social and emotional competence of young children in your care.

Use a Positive Behavioral Support System (Pyramid Model)
A positive behavior support system helps programs carefully plan how their program, including the environment, interactions, and schedule, will build social and emotional competence and prevent challenging behavior. Such systems or frameworks also guide you when children need additional support.
The Pyramid Model is just such a framework and OEC supports the use of this model in early care and education programs across the state.
Visit the Pyramid Model webpage for more information about the model and to learn how you can get involved!
